Fun Facts

This weekend we made our way 10 hours from Denmark to Germany to Belgium and finally to France. It was a long drive and I learned a few random fun facts that I thought I'd share... 


Denmark was the first European country to abolish slavery.
Danes eat more pasta than any other people.
Denmark is the fifth largest exporter of food in the world.
Denmark came up with Lego.

Gummy Bears were invented by the German Hans Riegel.
70 precent of german highways have no speed limit.
There are more soccer fan clubs in Germany than in any other country.
Germany claims the distinction of being the fifth biggest economy in the world.

Belgium produces 220,000 tones of chocolate per year and is the world's largest chocolate selling point.
There are 3 main sorts of Belgian waffles: Liege waffles, Brussels waffles and Galettes. 
The worlds 2 first printed newspapers were both published in 1605 in Belgium.
97 percent of Belgium households receive cable TV- this is the highest percentage in the world.

France is the worlds first producer of wine and liquors. 
The French healthcare system was ranked number one in the world in 1997.
France produces 365 different types of cheese.
Denim came originally from the French town of Nimes and was shipped to California for the gold rush.
