Busy, busy, busy

This week has been quit busy, which has been a nice change compared to my "I do nothing but read" days. I had finals, we've played 3 matches and have another one tomorrow, more downtown visits have been made, there was much reading that had to be done and a Halloween practice.

Friday night we had a fun Halloween practice. We all put on our DIY costumes and tried playing a bit of volleyball. Once that failed we grabbed our knives and pumpkins and began carving designs into them. It was so fun to see the Danes reactions as they carved into their pumpkins for the first time ever. I felt as though I was home with my siblings when I listened to the squeals as they put their hands into the pulp of the pumpkins. We toasted seeds, which was another first time affair and made some wonderful memories.

The weather has dropped drastically which is quite confusing to my California mind.  The windows are beginning to get frosty at night and when I got up for my match Saturday the ground was covered with white frost which I first thought was snow. I am not used to it getting below freezing at this time of year and all I want to do is listen to Christmas music. It's quite bad and I am sad to admit I gave in already.

Today the business continued as I finally found a church. I biked to Kristuskirkun and participated in an hour long worship services in Danish. Though I couldn't understand what was being said it was such a blessing to be around a community of believers again. I met some people who spoke English and was immediately welcomed into the community. Once the service ended I enjoyed a Vietnamese meal and attended another service in Vietnamese and English. It was amazing to see these people worshiping the Lord in their language. I loved seeing them raise their hands in surrender to Christ and the passion they have for our king. One of my favorite moment where when they sang songs which I recognized and I could worship with them. It was such a great reminder that our God is a God of all nations. I truly feel blessed!

Well enough rambling and preaching. I hope you all have had a wonderful week.
Enjoy your Sunday and time with your family.

Monday Living

It's Monday, and let's face it who likes Mondays?!
Today lets going to change the dreaded Monday affect. It is Monday and we're gonna live a little.

So have some fun this Monday, make a few memories and start your week with a bang.

Noa Noa

Today I came across something much better than any Euro style I have seen thus far. I didn't think it could get much better than the knits and boots until I saw the mini version.

As I walked into a store that looked much like Anthropologie I was smitten by the little corner of baby girl clothes. I couldn't get enough of the dresses, the jumpers, the boots and the tights and had to calm myself from dreaming of purchasing it all for my sweet niece.

It was the perfect store to start the making of any young fashionista and great for the mommas too! Take a look but keep your wallet on watch too, it could get a little out of control.

A good start.

Yesterday we finally played our first game of the season. After a stressful week of waiting for my permission to stay papers and hoping they would be completed in time for me to participate in the game it was nice to finally play. My papers came in just in time and the game began. Our first set started off with a wrong lineup but we worked through it somehow come out on top holding a comfortable lead throughout the game. The next sets were close with each team battling for ever point, but in the end Fortuna Volley held the match with a 3-1 win over Frederiksberg. It was a great win for us because Frederiksberg is one of the higher teams in the league.

Nothing can compare to the thrill you get when you get that perfect pass, or when you stuff a hitter one on one, or when you run down a shanked pass and make the perfect set for a kill. I had almost forgotten the feeling and now that I've tasted it again I can't get enough.

It was a good start to the season indeed.

Celebrate

This week has been a fun one. Monday nights practice was a scrimmage, Tuesday we had enough people at practice to actually play 6 on 5 games and yesterday was another day spent downtown and a birthday celebration for my roommate Mie [Thermopolis].

Jill and I had a great time downtown exploring the different shops as well as getting to know the Danish money system. We found a couple great finds and topped off our afternoon with some good nachos from my new favorite cafe Kræz.

I've gotten to experience the full Danish birthday celebration and had a wonderful night celebrating with Jill, Mie and her parents. We had a delicious dinner and a wonderful slice of typical Danish birthday cake layered with hindbær (raspberry), flødeskum (whipped cream) and kage (cake).

I'm anxious for this weekend and the official start of our season! It has been a long time since I've played in a real game and I am excited to get my competitive juices flowing again.

Enjoy the rest of your week everyone.

Phone Fun

As I was filling my time on pinterest the other day I am across a site with fun phone cases and thought I'd share. They are super cute and decently priced, the only problem... there's so many you'll have problems choosing just one!

Here's a couple of my favorites:

Happy Sunday all!

Downtown Fashion

Today I got out of the apartment and had a fun afternoon downtown with Julie and Mirela. The weather was nice with a high of 54 degrees, no rain and colorful leaves blowing in the slight wind.

I love being outside and seeing the different style of people here.
Like I said before everyone is so fashionable and fun, it's simply wonderful.

The girls and I had fun in the shops and of course purchased a few new items for our wardrobes.
We went to a cafe I had yet to experience and enjoyed a smoothie and a chance to chat.

It was indeed a fun day in Denmark.

Such a Dane

Today we started our new tradition of once a month team dinners. Triin warmly opened up her home and created a delicious tuna casserole for all of us to enjoy. We chatted and swapped stories with one another and finished off the evening with a slice of pumpkin pie, my favorite! That is one thing I am missing greatly in my days being here. How can a place have actual Fall weather and not indulge in pumpkin festivities?! I just don't understand.

I am growing closer and closer with my teammates, forming a bond that can not be explained but only those who participate in sports can fully grasp. We spend more time together than with family even; and being an international I am now realizing just how important this relationship with these ladies really are. There are moments when I still want to enjoy an hour or so of alone time (let's face it I never got to fully experience that growing up with my crazy family so I need to take advantage of it while I can!) but I am so thankful for these girls and our moments together.

I am happy to report that over the course of this week I am been told that I am such a Dane. Now that is quite a feat for me because being a Dane is not so simple. Let me explain the few situations that have awarded me this honor...

1. I have been told that I'm a beast on my bike and have graduated to the
level of passing other Danes on our bike rides.
2. I have experienced and slightly enjoyed Leverpostej, yes my friends that is
Danish liver pate! I know the vegan eating liver... cray! But
I realized I could no longer be known as a vegan when I unknowingly ate
duck in France, so liver pate it is.
3. While I was riding my bike my basket began to wobble and I began to tumble.
Like any old Dane would do I did not hold onto my bike but rather
let my bike fall and took a leap to safety. My roommate Mie (who I like to call
Mie Thermopolis) was oh so impressed and I felt oh so Danish.

Mom and Dad should be proud because I am turning into quite the little Dane.

Until next time, enjoy your days and have a little adventure of your own.
